Hysterectomy

Hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy is usually the first gender affirmation procedure performed in transmen, along with bilateral mastectomy. It includes complete removal of all internal female genitalia (uterus with both ovarian tubes and ovaries). It is usually performed in the same stage with mastectomy, but can also be done in the same stage with phalloplasty.

Hysterectomy routes

Hysterectomy in transmen is performed using transvaginal or laparoscopic approach, depending on indications and patients’ preferences. Both methods are very safe, with extremely low rate of complications. This is a routine procedure in our center, and we usually combine it with mastectomy or phalloplasty, with excellent outcomes.
